Rotation # 502
Spurs -4.5 over Knicks (loss)
It will be a unique series between a veteran Knicks team and a young, energetic Spurs team. San Antonio has the size advantage in this series and has all the tools to win on the glass. San Antonio showed incredible poise by dominating wire-to-wire in a win-or-go-home Game 7 on the road against the defending-champion Thunder. The Spurs remind us of last year’s Oklahoma City team, which might indeed be too young even to realize the magnitude of what is at stake. San Antonio had the better overall regular-season results and was outstanding at home. The Knicks were an average road team. The Spurs’ youthful legs should be able to up the pace and play at a tempo the Knicks are not comfortable with. San Antonio defends the three-ball well, and the presence of Victor Wembanyama leads to points in the paint and blocked shots on defense. The Knicks are not a threat in the paint and will need to make their mid-range shots if they want any chance of winning on the road. New York has been idle for a long stretch after sweeping Cleveland, so it will be interesting to see what kind of start they make and whether the Spurs can jump out to an early lead. A lot of the NBA comes down to which team gets to the foul line more, which can vary from night to night depending on how the officials call the game. The Knicks are certainly capable of winning the title, but it will be the starters who get them there, as the bench is not a threat. San Antonio must use their youthful athleticism to their advantage. Take the Spurs.

Rotation # 979-980
Rockies/Angels Over 8.5 runs (win)
Lorenzen/Urena
The Angels are looking to put on a horrible performance filled with errors and even giving up a home run that went off a player’s head, Jose Canseco-style, but, more importantly, hoping to avoid the three-game sweep to the Rockies. I don’t trust either bullpen, and I don’t trust either starter to go deep into the game so that we could get one big late crooked-run inning. Rockies starter Michael Lorenzen has been knocked around, so the Angels have a golden opportunity to plate a lot of runs tonight. Colorado will get a chance to rattle the young Walbert Urena. Both teams should have many opportunities to hit the ball well with the wind blowing out to center. Take the Over.
