Vanderbilt -10.5 over SMU (win)
There is a buzz going around Nashville that hasn’t been felt in years, as both the football and basketball programs are top-notch. Both SMU and Vanderbilt enter the night with 8-0 records. The oddsmakers set the Commodores as a high favorite because they have an outstanding offense that plays at a fast tempo and is capable of putting up a lot of points. The Mustangs of SMU are no pushovers, as they can put offense up in a hurry, but this will be their first actual road test of the season against a ranked opponent. I give head coach Andy Enfield credit for having his team ready to compete against Mississippi State the other night in their overtime road victory, but this will be a much more formidable challenge trying to stop so many gifted, offensively talented players. Duke Miles was an outstanding transfer portal pickup from Oklahoma, giving Vanderbilt another capable ball handler alongside Tyler Tanner. Devin McGlockton has been great on the glass, including the ability to secure offensive rebounds to fuel the offense. Both teams will get their points, but the Commodores, behind their home crowd, will go on a run to grab a double-digit lead and never look back. Take Vanderbilt.
