Marshall -1 over Akron (loss)
Akron doesn’t shoot the ball well, and tonight will face one of the tallest teams in the nation, and the size mismatch will be very noticeable. Teams that can score can negate the height disadvantage, but that’s not the case with the Zips. Not only are Marshall monsters in length, but they are a quick pace team. I can’t see Akron winning the rebounding edge, leading to more Marshall points. I don’t see Akron using the three-point line as the great equalizer. Marshall should bully their way to the win. Take Marshall.

Maryland -1 over Virginia Tech (loss)
Maryland brought in a ton of talent from the transfer pool, giving them instant offense. Virginia Tech brings back key starters and will get help from Wofford transfer Storm Murphy. The Hokies are always a great three-point shooting team, but they tend to struggle if the three are not falling. This building is tough to play in, and this Maryland team does have the physical size advantage tonight. Home court means so much in a game like this. Both teams have already struggled at times so far in this early season, but I think the Terps will get excellent guard play from newcomer Fatts Russell and get buckets at the rim with fellow newcomer Qudus Wahab. The crowd will be electric tonight. Take Maryland.
