Picks for 4/23/25

Rotation # 540
Cavs -12 over Heat (loss)
The Cavaliers are the top-scoring offense in the NBA, while the Heat is one of the lowest-scoring teams. Miami can only hang defensively for so long. The Cavs are great around the basket, while Miami is a poor shot-blocking team and will have no answer for the speed of Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland or the size of Evan Mobley. Miami can’t secure offensive rebounds, meaning they need to shoot at an extremely high percentage to be competitive. I don’t see that being the case against a rock-solid Cavalier defense. Cleveland was the best team in the Eastern Conference this year and, on their home court, should take a commanding lead in this series. Take the Cavs.

Rotation # 963-964
Mariners/Red Sox Over 9.5 runs (win)
Hancock/Newcomb
The Mariners offense has been outstanding on the road. Seattle has been held back by bad pitching and will get no relief tonight with Emerson Hancock on the mound. Hancock has struggled in his career with allowing too many hits and home runs. Boston hitters are licking their chops. Red Sox starter Sean Newcomb allows too many walks and hits himself. Both offenses should be able to do enough to make it a high-scoring game. Take the Over.
