Rotation # 101-102
Cowboys/Lions Under 54.5 (loss)
No other team in the NFL has been involved in more high-scoring games this season than the Cowboys, as their total went over in 8 of their 12 games. The Lions are not far behind with the total going over in 7 of their 12 games. The total is high because of it and because Vegas knows the public is betting the over tonight, no matter what. The Cowboys are in a good spot, as they don’t have the same injury issues the Lions do, but it’s been a challenge for them to win on the road. The Lions would be wise to adjust their game plan given the many injuries on their offensive line. The Lions are extremely thin with receiving options, especially if Amon-Ra St. Brown misses the game. Detroit is without its top two tight-ends, which takes away Jared Goff’s safety net when a play breaks down. There might be a few players who sit out who would otherwise have played on a Sunday, making midweek games deep into a season a real challenge. Detroit would be crafty to run the football with Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery and play to the clock, keeping the Dallas offense off the field. The Cowboys will again be without Tyler Guyton on the offensive line, so expect the Lions’ front seven, led by Aidan Hutchinson, to get after Dak Prescott. Both front sevens will look to put pressure on the quarterback enough to prevent them from loading up on a big play. Neither pass defense is any good and far from full strength, so it wouldn’t be shocking to see multiple big plays, but tonight’s total of 54.5 is for two teams you would think had no issues on the offensive line and no injuries at the skill positions. That is not the case for this evening. It’s not a playoff game tonight, but it is for the loser, so I expect both teams to value their possessions. Typically, offensive line issues lead to penalties and mishaps, which back teams up as the clock runs. We would love a love drive or two that ends in a field goal attempt. Both quarterbacks have the arm to turn this into a shootout, but we will take the chance that everything won’t be perfect with all the injuries. Take the Under.
