Arizona State/Texas A&M Over 50.5 (win)

Arizona State heads into the 2026 season with its staff mostly intact from a year ago. Cutter Boley was phenomenal in his first start for the Sun Devils after coming over from Kentucky, throwing six touchdown passes last week. Yes, it was against Morgan State, but offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo is trying to get him up to speed in the Sun Devils’ tempo system. With Texas A&M a new defensive coordinator, Arizona State will try to catch the Aggies off guard by upping the pace. The Sun Devils also did well in the portal, adding receivers like Reed Harris, Omarion Miller, and Raiden Vines-Bright. Arizona State has a significant size advantage over the Aggies’ secondary, so a few jump balls from Boley might not be a bad idea. Both teams have good size on their offensive lines, and the Sun Devils will want to keep Daymion Sanford on the sidelines as much as possible. Sanford has been cleared to play, but it’s unlikely he will have a full workload coming back from a fibula injury. The Aggies will look to bully their way on the ground with Rueben Owens II, while QB Marcel Reed is a dual threat who can soften up a defense by making them worry about his legs. It will be a hot afternoon in College Station, but nothing the Sun Devils aren’t used to playing in the desert. Look for both offenses to do enough to make this a higher-scoring game. California/Syracuse Over 56.5 (loss)

Cal is 0-1 this year and desperate to get into the winner’s circle, but securing that first win is never easy with a new staff on the road. Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele is back for another season as the starting quarterback for the Bears. Cal did a wonderful job picking up receiver Ian Strong from Rutgers in the offseason. The Bears will look to attack the new-look Syracuse defense under new defensive coordinator Vinc Kehres. Steve Angeli is back under center for Syracuse. Offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon will look to pick on the Golden Bears’ young, 31-year-old new defensive coordinator, Michael Hutchings. We should expect tempo from the Orange in perfect indoor conditions. Syracuse has the biggest offensive line in Power Conference football, thanks largely to the 385-pound Byron Washington. California has a massive size advantage up front against the undersized Syracuse front seven. Both teams should have enough beef to get the run game going and give their quarterbacks time to move the ball. Look for a higher-scoring contest. Take the Over.

Iowa -14 over Iowa State (loss)

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz is in his 28th season as head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes and is the longest-tenured coach in college football. Ferentz started his coaching job before Iowa State head coach Jimmy Rogers and his coordinators were born. Matt Campbell left for the coaching job at Penn State and took much of the Cyclones’ roster with him. Iowa State truly has a new identity heading into 2026. Most players on this current team have little to no experience at the Power Conference level. The Hawkeyes bring back an experienced staff, running back Kamari Moulton, and a senior-led offensive line. Every team goes through turnover, and the Hawkeyes are no exception as they rebuild their front seven. Iowa State is putting together a brand-new program that wears the Iowa State logo. It’ll take time to put it all together. The spread today is pretty high. I am not a fan of asking a team to win by large margins, but this is a game where we let the spread take care of itself, and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. Iowa should be able to run the ball and then attack a Cyclones secondary that doesn’t have much talent. Take Iowa.

Arkansas +12.5 over Utah (loss)

Arkansas hits the road with a brand-new coaching staff to take on a ranked Utah team that also has a brand-new staff. Utah went through a lot of turnover, none bigger than Kyle Whittingham taking the coaching job at Michigan. The Utes lost all five starters from a dominant offensive line last year. QB Devon Dampier is a special talent, but breaking in new starters will be challenging, especially since it’s the first time in his college football career without Jason Beck as his coordinator, dating back to his time at New Mexico. It will be challenging for running back Wayshawn Parker to get in sync with the new offensive line as well. The SEC is known for its speed and size. Arkansas has a massive size edge on the offensive line, so Razorbacks QB KJ Jackson should get extra time to make his throws. The Razorbacks also have a size advantage in their secondary, as they match up well physically with the Utes’ skill players. Nobody doubts that Utah is the better program at this point, but I am not sure the Utes deserve to be massive favorites. The Arkansas staff is new, but they have camaraderie, especially on offense, from their time together at Memphis. Look for the Razorbacks to be bullies in the trenches and make today’s game interesting. Take Arkansas.
