Miami +7.5 over Indiana
Miami/Indiana Over 46.5
Indiana has been, without a doubt, the top team in the nation this season. Miami had the improbable path to the college football playoffs, yet a million things went their way to sneak in. The Hurricanes are massive underdogs in their own building. Indiana fans travel well, but playing on your own turf is an enormous advantage. The Hoosiers are by far the more explosive team and can put points up in a hurry, but the Hurricanes can win in the trenches tonight, as they have the bigger, more experienced offensive and defensive lines. The Hurricanes’ only shot at winning tonight is to be the more physical team and break the Hoosiers’ will. I am not so sure that is possible with all the weapons Indiana has at its disposal. QB Fernando Mendoza was the best player in football this season; the running game, led by Roman Hemby and Kaelon Black, has been outstanding; and the receiving room is too good to cover. The Hurricanes will be without cornerback Xavier Lucas in the first half for a targeting call last week. It’s not fair that slates are not wiped clean heading into such a massive game. Indiana will try to strike early and often. Miami will try to attack Indiana at the line of scrimmage with Mark Fletcher, but at some point, Mario Cristobal is going to have to allow senior QB Carson Beck to unload down the field. The ACC was the laughing stock of the power conferences this year, and how fitting that a team that didn’t even make the ACC Title Game is playing on the biggest stage of them all, with the luxury of playing on their home turf. Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti has done a remarkable job at turning the Hoosier program around. I don’t know if the Hurricanes can play physical football without committing silly penalties to win the game outright, especially against a Hoosiers team that plays mistake-free football. Still, I believe they can keep it close. Take Miami. Take the Over. No Parlays.
