The Colts have a 3 percent chance of making the playoffs, which means they are not going to make it. It’s too bad because there was a point in the season not too long ago that they were the most polished team in the NFL. Daniel Jones going down was unfortunate, and you feel for this current team, as a long playoff run was not out of the picture. The 49ers made the playoffs with the Lions losing yesterday, but they are in the hunt for the NFC West and can’t relax, as their seeding over the next few weeks will determine a lot. There are a few reasons why I am taking the 49ers tonight. Colts QB Philip Rivers is 44 years old, so his mobility won’t be an issue for the 49ers’ defense to worry about. The Colts are without Bernhard Raimann tonight, and Braden Smith is on IR. Both starting tackles not being available is an injury waiting to happen for old man Rivers. I wish him luck. Jonathan Taylor is an outstanding running back, but the young offensive line operating without 40% of its starters isn’t the best-case scenario for him. I am not too worried about the spread as it is high for a road team, but if the down and out battered Colts can win with the oldest QB in the league that hasn’t played before we knew what the word covid meant, then you really can’t be too mad if you lose your bet. The 49ers have a strong offensive balance, with a great running game and a host of receivers who move the ball. San Francisco has been hurting on defense all year long with key players out, but again, it goes back to Rivers having to beat you for four quarters. It’s certainly possible, but the honeymoon phase of his return has worn off, and there is a reason why he retired in the first place. Take the 49ers.
