Rotation # 201-202
Utah/UCLA Over 49.5 (win)
It will be a picture-perfect night for football at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Both teams are looking to get bowl-eligible after failing to qualify last season. Utah has a new offensive coordinator, Jason Beck, who, a year ago, was the offensive coordinator at New Mexico. Transfer QB Devon Dampier is from New Mexico and is familiar with the system Beck has implemented at Utah. The trust is already there. The Utes have a lot of new offensive role players who played at smaller conferences a year ago, so it’s unrealistic to think they will jump out of the gates and dominate the conference. Still, the key for tonight’s game is the RPO scenarios Devon Dampier can create. UCLA returns just one defensive starter from a year ago. The Bruins coaching staff is still learning on the fly and might have a tough time stopping the dual-threat ability Dampier brings to the table. The Utes’ offensive line returns all five starters from a season ago. They should put up points. UCLA is excited about its new QB, Nico Iamaleava, who crossed the country from the University of Tennessee. Iamaleava has the luxury of playing for an offensive coordinator in Tino Sunseri, who is an ex-QB himself and will draw up a lot of passing plays. CAL Transfer Jaivian Thomas will look to make an immediate impact at running back. QB’s that can take off with their legs are a nightmare to cover early in the season. The Run-Pass Option should leave a lot of defenders on ice skates. Look for a lot of scoring. Take the Over.
