Aaron Glenn returns for his second season as head coach of the Jets. You can be sure he won’t be back at this time next year if they finish 3-14 again. Veteran coach Frank Reich takes over as offensive coordinator. Geno Smith comes over from the Raiders and will be the next starting quarterback. Breece Hall returns as the primary running back. The Jets return seven of their top eight pass catchers from a year ago, including Adonai Mitchell, Isaiah Williams, Garrett Wilson, and tight end Mason Taylor. The offensive line returns Olu Fashanu, Josh Myers, Joe Tippmann, and Armand Membou, and welcomes in Dylan Parham and Jordan Meredith, both from the Raiders.

Brian Duker takes over as the new defensive coordinator, while Glenn will handle the defensive play-calling. The Jets return seven of their top eleven tacklers from a year ago. The front seven brings back David Onyemata, Harrison Phillips, Jowon Briggs, Jamien Sherwood, Will McDonald, and Kiko Mauigoa, while adding T’Vondre Sweat from the Titans, Demario Davis from the Saints, Joseph Ossai from the Bengals, and rookie David Bailey from Texas Tech. The secondary returns Azareye’h Thomas, Brandon Stephens, Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Malachi Moore, and Andre Cisco, while adding Minkah Fitzpatrick from Pittsburgh, Dane Belton from the Giants, and Nahshon Wright from the Bears.

Chris Banjo is back for his second season as special teams coordinator. Blake Grupe comes over from the Colts to take over the field goal duties. Austin McNamara is back as punter. Isaiah Williams had two punt return touchdowns last year, and Kene Nwangwu scored a touchdown on a kickoff last year. Jets fans are excited for the two new coordinators and believe the team should be more competitive in the AFC East this season. We will see how the Geno Smith experiment pans out as he returns many moons later to the team he was drafted to.
