The Colts are eager to get back into action after collapsing in the second half of last season. Shane Steichen returns for his fourth season, and Jim Bob Cooter is back as offensive coordinator. Daniel Jones returns at quarterback after an outstanding start before his season-ending injury derailed the Colts’ season. Jonathan Taylor returns as the lead running back. The Colts return five of their top eight receivers from last year, led by Alec Pierce, Josh Downs, and tight end Tyler Warren. Former Charger Keenan Allen joins the group and is slated to start. Pierce was placed on injured reserve after aggravating a heel injury in Week 2. The Colts signed veteran Darius Slayton following the injury. Allen missed Week 4 with a groin injury. Bernhard Raimann, Quenton Nelson, Tanor Bortolini, Matt Goncalves, and Jalen Travis return on the offensive line.
Lou Anarumo returns for his second season as defensive coordinator. Indianapolis has a lot of defensive turnover, returning just four of its top eleven tacklers from a year ago. Grover Stewart, DeForest Buckner, Laiatu Latu, and Adetomiwa Adebawore return in the front seven. The Colts welcome Arden Key from the Titans, Michael Clemons from the Jets, Akeem Davis-Gaither from the Cardinals, and Georgia rookie CJ Allen. Clemons was placed on injured reserve following Week 2. Charvarius Ward, Sauce Gardner, and Cam Bynum anchor the secondary, and the Colts are also eager to see LSU rookie A.J. Haulcy in action.
Brian Mason returns as special teams coach. Spencer Shrader is back as field goal kicker, and Rigoberto Sanchez returns as the punter. Ashton Dulin will handle kick returns, while Josh Downs is the primary punt returner. Daniel Jones reinvented himself and was playing at an MVP-caliber level before he got hurt last season. After opening the season 0-2, Indianapolis has responded with consecutive wins over Houston and Washington to even its record at 2-2. Indianapolis has a few spots to fill on defense, but it has the tools to compete in the AFC South.
