The Colts are eager to get back into action after collapsing in the second half of last season. Shane Steichen returns for his fourth season. Injuries are part of the game, so nobody would call last season a failure. The Colts were by far the most impressive team in the first half of the season a year ago. Jim Bob Cooter returns as offensive coordinator. Daniel Jones is back at quarterback and was outstanding until his season-ending injury, which derailed the Colts’ season. Jonathan Taylor returns as the lead running back. The Colts return five of their top eight receivers from a year ago, led by Alec Pierce, Josh Downs, and tight end Tyler Warren. Former Charger Keenan Allen joins the group and is slated for a starting role. Bernhard Raimann, Quenton Nelson, Tanor Bortolini, Matt Goncalves, and Jalen Travis return on the offensive line.

Lou Anarumo returns for his second season as defensive coordinator. Indianapolis has a lot of defensive turnover, returning just four of their top eleven tacklers from a year ago. Grover Stewart, DeForest Buckner, Laiatu Latu and Adetomiwa Adebawore return on the front seven. The Colts welcome in Arden Key from the Titans, Micheal Clemons from the Jets, Akeem Davis-Gaither from the Cardinals, and Georgia rookie CJ Allen. Charvarius Ward, Sauce Gardner, and Cam Bynum return to the secondary, which is also eager to see LSU rookie A.J. Haulcy in action.

Brian Mason returns as special teams coach. Spencer Shrader is back as field goal kicker, and Rigoberto Sanchez as the punter. Oklahoma rookie Deion Burks will look to make an immediate impact as the primary return man. Daniel Jones reinvented himself and was playing at an MVP-caliber level before he got hurt. The Colts defense has a few spots to fill, but it has the tools to compete for the division with the Jaguars and Texans.
